I'm feelin' a bit melancholy today.....
That's a really great word.
I know, not a very uplifting one, but it's filled with
nostalgia and
black and white films and
romance.
And it sounds so much better than grumpy!
Why do you grieve?
Try and believe
Life is always sunshine
When the heart beats true
Banish your fears
Smile through your tears
When you're sad
It makes me feel the same as you...
Come to me my melancholy baby
Cuddle up and don't be blue
All your fears are foolish fancy, maybe
You know, dear, that I'm in love with you;
Every cloud must have a silver lining
Wait until the sun shines through
Come on and smile, my honey dear,
While I kiss away each tear
Or else I shall be melancholy too...
In 1912, William Frawley—who later played Fred Mertz on I Love Lucy—was the first person to perform the song publicly, in the Mozart Cafe in Denver, Colorado.
Ernie Burnett, who composed the music, was wounded fighting in the First World War, and he lost his memory together with his identity dog-tags. While recuperating in hospital, a pianist entertained the patients with popular tunes including "Melancholy Baby". Burnett rose from his sickbed and exclaimed: "That's my song!" He had regained his memory.
The word for the day...
Melancholy.
You don't have to be it.......
just sing it.
(do you know the tune? I don't)
